Materials.
Spruce
- Origin: Upper Austria (Mühlviertel), Lower Austria, Czech Forest, Central Europe
- Wood grown slowly upwards of 1000 metres above sea level, and therefore special properties such as: hardly splinters at all, less breakage, smooth and beautiful surface
- A gentle process of air drying over many years down to a wood moisture content of 18% reduces and prevents cracking as well as warping issues
- Final drying down to a wood moisture content of 12% is carried out in a drying chamber
Larch
- Origin: Bavarian Forest, Bohemian Forest, Carinthia, Styria, Central Europe
- The wood is checked annually by the authorities to ensure that it is pest-free to ensure that no pests are accidentally introduced into the Austrian forests
- Josko flatly refuses to use more cost effective Siberian Larch (this is not tested by the authorities and is therefore not certified!)
Oregon pine
- Origin: from sustainable Canadian forestry industry (British Columbia)
- The wood is subject to stringent checks by the certification initiative PEFC Austria
- Wood grown slowly and therefore special properties such as: hardly splinters at all, less breakage, smooth and beautiful surface
- Heat treated for pest reduction at 80° C
- Dried to an optimal wood moisture content of 10-14%
- Guaranteed pest-free through test certificate from the Austrian Federal Forests
OAK
- Origin: from sustainable forestry industries in Central Europe
- As a hardwood it is perfect for large elements (better structural properties) and is extremely resilient
- Fewer compression points and longer lasting than softwoods
Plastic
- Josko uses plastic – free of lead and cadmium I
- Josko plastic doors are made up of 30% normal PVC and 70% white recycled material
- Plastic waste is sorted and re-used. Recycled plastic is re-used in our own production
